There is one professional revival of a Baroque font from the Low Countries which comes to mind, but nothing from the later part of the Renaissance. The roman font is the core or spine from which a family of typefaces. I don't want to make printers feel like they don't know what they're doing, but I don't think that a commercial font comes close. The bonus is that I prefer Granjon's work for the italics. Nothing is stopping you from drawing your own typeface inspired by Claude Garamond's original work from the sixteenth century, but I personally prefer revivals and whatnot based on the original typefaces more or less directly, and that's what makes EB Garamond a truer representation.
